1. What is a one-piece crimp fitting?
As industry professionals know, hose fittings are generally divided into two main categories: two-piece fittings and one-piece fittings.
While a two-piece fitting consists of an insert (stem) and a ferrule as two separate components—requiring the technician to select the exact ferrule compatible with both the insert and the hose type—a one-piece fitting features a design where the ferrule is pre-crimped or integrally machined as a single unit with the insert.

2. 3 Technical reasons why one-piece crimp fittings are the top priority
Eliminating the risk of mismatched specifications: With two-piece fittings, pairing the wrong ferrule (e.g., using a ferrule meant for a 1-wire hose on a 2-wire hose) can easily occur if inventory management is poor. One-piece fittings eliminate 99% of this risk. The ferrule and insert are factory-assembled, ensuring absolute dimensional accuracy in accordance with stringent international standards such as DIN and ISO.
Ensuring concentricity and a perfect crimp profile: When placed into the crimping machine, the ferrule of a one-piece fitting slides and deforms evenly along the axis of the steel insert. This allows the crimp teeth to bite deeply and concentrically into the reinforcement wire layers of the hydraulic hose, creating a tight mechanical seal capable of withstanding continuous impulse pressure without cracking or bursting.
Optimizing assembly time and quality control: The one-piece design allows technicians to skip the ferrule positioning step. This fast and accurate operation ensures that the quality of 1,000 machined hoses is as uniform as a single one, easily meeting the strict schedules of large-scale assembly projects.
3. Practical Application: Assembling DIN-standard hydraulic hoses for heavy-duty systems.
Technical theory must always be proven in practice. Recently, the VHE team completed the mass assembly of high-pressure hydraulic hose assemblies for an industrial maintenance project. The highlight of this piping configuration is the synchronized combination of components that meet stringent standards.
Specifically, the system utilized over 50 meters of Parker R2AT 5/8" (2SN-10) hydraulic hose—a hose featuring two layers of high-tensile steel wire braiding. To perfectly accommodate the working pressure of this system, we used a set of DIN-standard one-piece crimp fittings, size 5/8 inch - 20S series.
- The 20S (Heavy Series) under the DIN 2353 standard is a connection type specifically designed for applications involving extreme pressure and severe vibrations.
- Notably, because the project's working environment involved high external abrasion, the engineering team equipped the entire pipeline with a flexible stainless steel braided sleeve for exterior protection. This configuration, combined with matching one-piece fittings, created a connection assembly with maximum durability.
